Great Books for Parenting
"Child
Training Tips; What I wish I knew when my children were young"
- Reb Bradley
This book, along with the one below, has turned parenting from a
frustrating guessing game based on a hodge-podge of ideas and tactics
to a much more peaceful, focused, and intelligent process for us.
Only about 150 pages long, its easy to read in a few hours, but
so rich and practical, you'll keep referring back to it. Don't kick
yourself by waiting to read this!
To
Train Up a Child - Michael & Debi Pearl
When we read this book, our eyes were opened to the obvious yet
so-difficult concept that any good thing we want our children to
do must come about through training, not simply by expecting them
to know what to do. And we mean training, as in the kind of training
you might do with an animal! Funny thing is, our kids have learned
to obey before they learned to talk! Also a short book, you can't
go wrong reading this one through several times.
The
Five Love Languages of Children - Gary Chapman & Ross Campbell
If you want to learn how to really communicate love and appreciation
to your (very different from you and from each other) kids, this
book gives you a huge headstart. Based on the similarly titled book
for the adult population, the authors give practical suggestions
for learning what is important to your kids and how to love them
their way.
